If you guys want the ABSOLUTE best deal on Samsung Galaxy Note 8, definitely check out the SM-N950FD model which is 100% unlocked, international model that works flawless on any GSM network including AT&T or T-Mobile(yes, 4G LTE works for both). While retail versions of the Note 8 still go for $950 USD, you can save BIG by going with an international model.
Besides that, the international models come with Exynos 8895 processor instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, which gives you slightly better performance and 1-2 hours of extra battery life due to its efficiency. Also, international models offer more color choices including blue. But some of the rare colors are still harder to get and thus you will have to pay more for those.
These phones also make great gifts since they are already 100% unlocked plus you can save big by buying it on eBay. Also this is a dual-SIM model that allows you to use 2 SIM cards and numbers. You can also use just 1 SIM card and 1 microSD since one of the SIM slots do both.
Now, the international models DO NOT support Samsung Pay as they are usually localized for a country somewhere in Asia, Europe, South America, or Africa. BUT, the bootloader is fully-unlocked so you can easily root and update it with custom software even when Samsung stops updating in a few years, one of the benefits of getting the international model. On the other hand, U.S./Canadian models based on Qualcomm have locked bootloaders. You can root them but no custom ROMs can be installed.
While you may be able to get a better deal during Black Friday with your carrier(and yes get that free 2nd phone or $200 gift card), if you don’t want to be tied down to a carrier with a contract and want to have freedom to switch carriers anytime you want, the unlocked versions will save you more money in the long run. Most carriers screw their customers by offering gift cards of free phones but stick them with a monthly bill you have to pay for the next 2 years.(Heck, eBay does also provide financing thru Paypal btw.) Also the international models are the ones with HIGHEST re-sale value since they are unlocked and can be used anywhere in the world.
I have been actually watching the Note 8 listings on eBay for the last few weeks and this is actually very good prices as prices were still hovering around $900-850 for the last few weeks. In fact, I just ordered one myself in gold color!
